Cosmetology Course Description and Goals

Cosmetology course is a 1500 hour program consisting of training in such topics as hair-cutting, styling, perming, straightening, coloring, bleaching, and scalp treatments. The course also provides guidance in job opportunities, seeking and obtaining employment, and laws and regulations governing salon operation. Instruction is designed to prepare future cosmetologists for the state licensing examination and employment upon graduation.

Course Format

Course outlines and daily lesson plans ensure that all subjects are taught in correct sequence with proper balance devoted to theory, practical, and clinical instruction. Lectures, demonstrations, slides, films, mannequin and live model practice will be used to present information.

Course Progression

Students begin their training in the basic level and are promoted from there. The basic segment consists of theory and practical instruction, including supervised mannequin practice. Evaluations are given approximately every eight weeks. Students satisfactorily completing the basic segment are promoted to the intermediate segment and are permitted to serve clinical patrons under instructors supervision.

At the senior level, students accumulate more time in supervised live model practice in the clinic developing the communication and technical skills needed for success. Although the clinic is not a traditional classroom setting, students learn much from each encounter with a new client.

I have been teaching at Springfield Beauty Academy for 25 years. I love to teach and my main goals are to prepare students for the future and see them prosper in the field of Cosmetology. Getting students to pass the Stateboard exam has always been my first priority to the point where I would go to school on Sunday’s just to further prepare students for the exam. I am happy Springfield Beauty Academy is still going strong and I wish you the best of luck.
